Boochie Journal, Aug 5, 2020, 10 pm (day 6)
Dear Hoomans,
It’s been a couple of days since I last wrote. Mom took this picture yesterday night. I had a big, exciting day when we got stuck outside in the nasty storm, and by the time I got home and had dinner, I was quite tuckered out.
Yesterday’s big victory: I finally finagled my way into the hooman bed. 🐾 Mom had made me sleep in my crate the first few nights. I like my crate, actually, and often hang out there when I feel like it, but I had to put up a valiant fight about sleeping in it out of sheer puppers’ principle. Yesterday’s jaunt in the storm made Mom pretty tired. When she came to the bedroom after dinner, I had strategically fallen asleep in this pose (see pic) right next to her pillow, knowing full well she wouldn’t have the heart to wake me up and put me in the crate. Boochie: 1; Mommy: 0.
Well, that’s the version I’m claiming. Mommy tells her students constantly that life success is about mastering how to tell the story. I have spun this as a ‘Boochie wins’ story to my fellow puppers, asserting that my tenacity was no match for her principle of separation of crate & bed. I’m fully aware, of course, that she decided to let me win this battle. When she decides against something, no amount of my cute puppy looks can change her mind. I’ve discovered this already. When she told me there’s a ‘no Boochie in the kitchen’ rule, I thought I could flaunt it at will. Turns out, no matter how tired she feels, that one is still a ‘no.’
Naturally, I am pupper honor bound to keep pushing the rules. That’s a central tenet of the Puppers’ Rulebook. But I’m also aware that I’m going to get away with things during my first couple of weeks only because Mom is giving me time to settle in. The bed win might end up being my biggest victory in this household, yet.
Life is a game. There are gains; there are losses. There’s a lot to be said for tenacity & grit, as well as for accepting that a ‘win’ is often a matter of perspective. As my true colors are coming out, Mommy & I both know that it’s going to be an interesting month, August is. I’ll keep you updated.
Please write to me and let me know how your life journeys are unfolding, too. Stories shared are stories recorded!
Good night from the Boochie pupper. I love you all. 🐾🐾
